A design system is a shared set of standards and patterns that helps teams create consistent, efficient, and scalable user experiences. A content-first design system extends this foundation to language, defining how copy is written, structured, and reused. It ensures voice and tone, intent, grammar, content patterns (e.g., labels, data, microcopy, messages, help, and onboarding), and word choice are thoughtful, consistent, and aligned across the product.
As a Senior Technical Writer on a growing product team, I led the creation of a content-first design system to improve consistency, clarity, and collaboration across the product experience.
Throughout this project, I:
identified inconsistent terminology
built a product glossary
audited in-product content
created a product style guide
applied standards with design and product
wrote UX copy aligned to standards
maintained the style guide through ongoing review
